Fantasy Football Week 7: Start ‘em, Sit ‘em, Sleepers

You don’t need me to tell you to start your studs, here you will find some guys that I think will have good or bad games based on their matchups. Some of these picks will apply more to deeper or 2 QB leagues until bye weeks start. I will also pick some players I have nothing more than a hunch on with the Hail Mary picks.

Start ‘em

Last week’s Starts that made us look
Good: Benson, J. Graham
Bad: E. Manning
Average: Austin, Bryant

QB Josh Freeman (TB) v. Bears

The Bears are allowing the 5th most fantasy points to QBs this season. Freeman has been a disappointment this season but he makes a good bye week play.

RB Ryan Matthews (San Diego) vs Jets

The Jets can stop the pass, but not so much on the run, San Diego is coming off a bye and Matthews should have fresh legs.

WR Brandon Marshall (Miami) vs Broncos

Marshall looked good against the Jets last week, and I like the “revenge” factor of him playing against the Broncos, who are allowing the most fantasy points to WRs and 2 passing TDs per game.

TE Kellen Winslow (Tampa Bay) vs Bears

2 guys from Tampa, but Bye weeks mean owners have to fill some holes. I like Winslow this week against the Bears who are allowing the most fantasy points to TEs this season.

Sit ‘em

Last week’s sits that made us look
Good: Schaub, Green-Ellis, Garcon
Bad: S. Jackson
Average: none

QB Phillip Rivers (SD) v. Jets

The Jets can stop the pass as mentioned above, and should focus on the run game. You likely won’t bench Rivers but keep expectations low as the Jets allow the fewest fantasy points to QBs.

QB Cam Newton (Carolina) vs Redskins

The Redskins have only allowed 4 passing TDs this season, Newton may still be a viable play for his rushing and he seems to be the Panthers goal-line back as well.

RB Steven Jackson (St. Louis) vs Cowboys

This is the 2nd week in a row for S-Jax on the list, the Cowboys allow the 3rd fewest fantasy points to RBs. The Rams will be starting a new WR in Brandon Lloyd, may get WR Mark Clayton back from the PUP list, and Sam Bradford is also dealing with an ankle injury, I just don’t like the Rams this week.

WR Anquan Boldin (Baltimore) vs Jaguars

Boldin had a huge games last week, but the Ravens bread and butter has been the run game and the Jaguars are allowing the 2nd least fantasy points to WRs. (Editor’s note: I still haven’t gotten over having Boldin on my fantasy team last year and his consistent let-you-down inconsistency.)

Hail Marys / Sleepers

Last week’s Hail Marys that made us look

Good: Sanchez, Parker
Bad: can’t really look bad on a HM
Average: D. Thomas, Shiancoe

QB Tim Tebow (Den) v. Dolphins

I would start Tebow no matter what, but that’s me. Tebow has had 2 weeks to prepare against a poor Dolphins team, he adds great value as a runner. The Broncos did just trade their top WR Brandon Lloyd.

TE Dallas Clark (Indianapolis) vs Saints

Dallas Clark has been a disappointment, but I think that’s more a result of Indy’s lack of QB talent. Clark has a decent matchup this week against the Saints who allow 69 ypg to TEs.

RB DeMarco Murray (Dal) vs Rams

Murray takes over for an injured Felix Jones, against a Rams D allowing 132 ypg to RBs. Murray will split carries with Tashard Choice but should be on the better side of the share.

QB Christian Ponder vs Packers

Ponder makes his starting debut against the Packers, who are in the bottom 10 in pass D. The Vikings will likely be playing from behind, for a bye replacement its worth the Hail Mary.
