Fantasy Football: Start ‘em, Sit ‘em, & Hail Marys

You don’t need me to tell you to start your studs, here you will find some guys that I think will have good or bad games based on their matchups. Some of these picks will apply more to deeper or 2 QB leagues until bye weeks start. I will also pick some players I have nothing more than a hunch on with the Hail Mary picks.

Start ‘em

Last week’s Starts that made us look Good: Gore, D. Moore, Ch. Johnson Bad: Cutler Average: none

QB Matt Stafford (Det) v. Bears

Stafford started off slow last week but threw 2 TDs in the 4th quarter to salvage his day. The Bears are normally thought of as a top defensive unit, but are actually giving up the 4th most fantasy points to QBs, so feel good about starting Stafford this week.

RB Marshawn Lynch (Sea) v. Giants

Last week Beanie Wells had a big day against the Giants, scoring 3 TDs, there is a good chance Seattle falls behind this week and abandons the run though. Lynch makes a good bye week fill in.

WR Malcolm Floyd (SD) v. Broncos

Vincent Jackson could be limited by injury this week and Antonio Gates will be out again. The Broncos have been giving up 275 passing ypg, look for Floyd to step up this week.

TE Jermaine Gresham (Cin) v. Jaguars

The Jaguars have been allowing over 80 ypg to the TE, if you need a bye week replacement I like Gresham.

Sit ‘em

Last week’s sits that made us look  Good: Flacco, Fitzpatrick Bad: C. McCoy, Bryant Average: none

QB Matt Hasselback (Ten) v. Steelers

Hasselback has found the fountain of youth with the Titans this season. While the Steelers have been struggling as of late, they are only allowing 168 pass ypg. Unless you need Hass for a bye week replacement, sit him.

RB Matt Forte (Chi) v. Lions

The Bears actually ran the ball last week! Forte has been involved each week in the running or passing game, but this week the Bears play the Lions who have only allowed 1 TD to a RB this season.

RB Michael Turner (Atl) v. Packers

The Falcons do play much better at home, than on the road, so I expect the Falcons’ offense to be better than it has. The Packers are only allowing 52 rushing ypg and haven’t allowed a TD to a RB this season.

RB LeGarrette Blount (TB) v. 49ers

Blount has seen his carries and rushing yards increase each week this season. This week the Bucs play the 49ers D who are #1 against the run and haven’t allowed a rushing TD this season.

Hail Marys

Last week’s hail marys that made us look Good: McNabb, Orton, Olsen Bad: can’t really look bad on a HM, but none this week Average: Ingram

QB Curtis Painter (Ind) v. Chiefs

Painter looked a little better than Kerry Collins had for the Colts. Kansas City is allowing 2.5 passing TDs per game, so take a chance on Painter if you need to.

QB Mark Sanchez (NYJ) v. Patriots

Sanchez put up negative fantasy points last week against the Ravens, but this week the Jets play the Patriots and they have the worst pass defense in the league, if the Jets are playing from behind Sanchez will have to throw.

RB Thomas Jones (KC) v. Colts

Jones hasn’t done much since the injury to Jamaal Charles but the Colts run D has been bad and are allowing at least 1 rushing TD per week.

RB Stevan Ridley (NE) v. Jets

Ridley has looked like the best back in New England the past 2 games and even as far back as the pre-season he showed flashes of greatness.  Its never easy to predict the Patriots RB touches, but if Danny Woodhead misses this game, Ridley should be in line to split carries with BenJarvus Green-Ellis.  Added bonus: the Jets are one of the worst teams against the run.
