2013 NFL Mock Draft – Picks 17-32
17. Pittsburgh Steelers – Alec Ogletree ILB, Georgia
The Steelers need to replace some LBs, Ogletree is athletic and can play inside or outside. He comes with some off field concerns. CB is also a spot Steelers could look to fill.
18. Dallas Cowboys – Sheldon Richardson DT, Missouri
Cowboys could use a OG or S but will find the value at DT to be better. Richardson can play inside or outside and will be a good fit for Monte Kiffin’s 4-3 Defense.
19. New York Giants – Tyler Eifert TE, Notre Dame
The Giants have stuck to taking the best player available the past few drafts regardless of need. Eifert at this point is one of the top players available and fills a need to develop more than a 1 year at a time TE.
20. Chicago Bears – DJ Fluker OT, Alabama
The Bears hired an offensive minded coach, who will need some lineman to protect Jay Cutler. Fluker is the last of the top Tackles on the board.
21. Cincinnati Bengals – Matt Elam S, Florida
The Bengals could use OT Fluker, since they have failed to resign Andre Smith. If Fluker is gone, hard hitting safety Matt Elam would be a nice piece to add to an improving defense.
22. Saint Louis Rams – Eric Reid S, LSU
S Matt Elam would be perfect here but he is off the board. Rams will take the next best option at Safety since they already grabbed a WR (see Part 1)
23. Minnesota Vikings – Manti Te’o ILB, Notre Dame
The Vikings have 2 of the next 3 picks, they should target an ILB and WR; with WR Patterson off the board already they will grab T’eo here. A lot of controversy will follow him to the NFL and his mental toughness has been questioned by scouts.
24. Indianapolis Colts – Datone Jones DE, UCLA
The Colts need a DE for their 3-4 Defense, Bjoern Werner and Damontre Moore are higher rated DEs but don’t fit the scheme. This could be a great place for the Colts to trade out of for a team that wants to move back into the first round for QB Gino Smith.
25. Minnesota Vikings – Justin Hunter WR, Tennessee
As mentioned above, the Vikings need a WR, and Hunter may be the most talented WR heading into the draft. His 6-4, 196 frame compares to AJ Green, but Hunter lacks Green’s hands. Hunter tore his ACL two seasons ago and could be a real draft gem as he gets back to full strength this season.
26. Green Bay Packers – Margus Hunt DE, SMU
Hunt is more athlete (6-8, 280 with 4.6 speed) than football player at this point having played only 4 years. This would be the second straight year taking a DE (Nick Perry) in the first round but upside is too good to pass. RB Eddie Lacy would make a lot of sense here as well.
27. Houston Texans – Keenan Allen WR, Cal
It seems like the Texans have been looking for a WR to put opposite Andre Johnson for years. Justin Hunter would be a great fit if still on the board. The Texans could be deciding between Allen, and Robert Woods here. Allen has some concerns about injury and drug testing. Woods is a saddled with the failures of former USC WRs in the NFL and a case of the drops. I like Terrance Williams from Baylor but think Houston goes with the higher-rated Allen.
28. Denver Broncos – Damontre Moore DE, Texas A&M
A DE to replace Elvis Dumervil is a need. Damontre Moore, who played with Von Miller at Texas A&M, was once thought of as a top 5 pick. FSUs Bjoern Werner could also go here.
29. New England Patriots – Geno Smith QB, West Virginia
Before you flip out and say what about Tom Terrific? The Patriots are well known for trading their picks to acquire more picks, and this year they don’t have many picks to begin with. I think someone will trade up here to grab Gino Smith (Clev, Phi, Buf, Oak, Jax). If the Patriots keep the pick, I think they take Washington CB Desmond Trufant.
30. Atlanta Falcons – Bjoern Werner DE, Florida St.
The Falcons could use a CB like Trufant, but Werner falling this far would fill a need opposite newly acquired Osi Umenyiora.
31. San Francisco 49ers – Sylvester Williams DT, UNC
The 49ers don’t have many holes to fill and have 13 picks in this draft. With all those picks San Fran should consider packaging a few to trade up and draft S Kenny Vaccaro. The Niners lost some DTs in free agency and signed Glenn Dorsey, but Williams or Alabama DT Jesse Williams work here to build for the future.
32. Baltimore Ravens – Jesse Williams DT, Alabama
Ravens lost a lot of parts to their defense, thanks to Joe Flacco’s new deal. They replaced Lewis and Reed with Rolando McClain and Mike Huff. Baltimore could take Jesse or Sylvester Williams to get stronger up the middle.
